Campo Six Containers
2,160 sf Church/Office, Port-au-Prince, Haiti
2019 Concept
The Campo project is a non-profit collaborative design project for the Bridge of Mission International, an organization in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The master plan consists of six phases: a chapel, clinic, and schools for the local community. As the site is located in a remote area with no infrastructure such as water supply or electricity, the goal was to meet the basic needs such as ventilation and shade and being time and cost-effective by utilizing accessible materials and a self-sufficient design. As such, using used containers as the primary building material reduced significant shipping and construction time. They are also reusable for future projects or construction needs. To provide ventilation and shade, six containers of different sizes surround the main assembly area creating gaps between each container to provide air flow throughout the structures and covering them with lifted slate metal panels provides ample shade.
