Bridge Residence
19,500 sf Single-family, Aspen, Colorado
2015 Built
@Oppenheim Architecture The design strategy starts from the existing bridge. This private bridge spans a river, and the second linear mass guides the client from the framed nature to the public area inside, then finally gets to the master bedroom with a three-directional open view. Clad in reclaimed regional wood, stone, and steel, the home is intended to make a minimal impact on the natural resources and merge with its surroundings of streams, forests, and mountains. Solar collectors provide needed energy for power and hot water, while extensive operable panels of insulated glass blur the boundaries between inside and out – further enforcing a connection and deep respect of place.
